Wabasso School - meeting the unique needs of all students!
Wabasso School is a special education center school serving students ages 5-22. To meet the unique needs of our students, we offer four program models: intensive, integrated, behavioral and a transition program. Our dedicated staff provides instruction that positively impacts student achievement, communication skills, social, emotional and behavioral growth. Within a safe and supportive learning environment children develop their academic and independent living skills to meet post-secondary goals and successful community integration.
At Wabasso School we want your child to reach their maximum potential. Our specialized instruction provides opportunities for your child to achieve academic gains, emotional development and positive social interactions. We are able to accomplish this with skilled teachers and staff, small class sizes and a focus on the individual needs of the whole child.
Our classrooms meet the academic needs of students on Florida Standards and Alternate Standards. Teachers utilize visual scheduling, provide a language rich environment and intensive behavior strategies. Through hands-on activities and technology integration students receive differentiated instruction to maximize their potential for learning. Through our transitional program, our students 18-22 are able to participate in community based experiences to prepare them for community integration and employment opportunities.
To develop social, emotional and physical needs of our students, we offer therapeutic related services. Therapies are addressed through speech/language, occupational, and physical therapy sessions. These sessions can include use of a therapy pool and multi-sensory therapy room. The adaptive physical education component is designed to give students the skills necessary for a lifetime of rich leisure, recreation, and sport experiences to enhance physical fitness and wellness. Behavioral needs are addressed by staff trained in applied behavioral analysis. This expertise allows for de-escalation and behavior modification.
Our students' educational experiences are enhanced through the collaborative efforts of our parents and community educational partners. Together, as one team, we can build a learning environment focused on our students and their individual needs.
